Session 8

Tuesday 13th November 2007

Objectives:
1. Find out whether the lads have improved on last weeks learnt skill.

In order to find out whether the lads had shown improvement on last weeks skill I decided that it would be appropriate to set up a game. However, unlike last week, I felt it was appropriate to put the lads into four teams, split on two pitches. This method would allow me to analyse the players better as they would get more touches of the ball (Totalyouthfootball.com). This would be played after the warm-up.

The game started straight away after the lads completed their warm-up. The game disappointed me. What concerned me was that the lads could only perform the skill at a slow pace. This would no doubt make it easier for any future opponents. This forced me to end the game short.

In order to improve I brought back the passing and move drills from last week (Totalyouthfootball.com). To motivate the lads during this exercise I thought it was appropriate to introduce a competition. This seemed to go down well. The lads showed improvement. The improvement shown demonstrated that the lads could compete at a higher level (Magill,1998). As the tempo of the passing was now up my standard I decided to end the session with the game.

Overall, I am happy with the development of this learnt skill. However, I shall be keeping in touch with the manager over the weekend to see if the lads have fallen in to bad old habits.
